Baby A's Week 14 Update

Welcome to the second trimester!

Baby Growth: This week Baby A is the size of a lemon!    He/she weighs about one and half ounces and is three and a half inches long.  It's spleen, kidneys, and liver have all started working this week; facial muscles are getting a workout too (I'm sure Baby A has been sqinting and grimmacing because mommy's been lifting boxes this week!)

Still no belly pictures this week, but Baby A looks a lot like this...

My Symptoms: This week I have started feeling a lot better during the day, which makes the workday better. I'm still struggling with some "morning sickness" at night though and when I go too long without food.  I still have not vomited (thank the Lord) but have started gagging and dry-heaving, especially after I eat...so weird!

Weight:  Accoring to my scale I have gained 4.4 pounds since the day I found out I was pregnant. I go to the doctor tomorrow, so I will know my true gain/loss then. My goal/hope/wish is that I have only gained two pounds since my last appointment.  My doctor told me my weight gain should be between 20-25 pounds total. I'm not obessessing over it, but I really do not want to gain a lot of excess weight becuase I have worked so hard to get in shape! One of mysweet family members said last night "girl, you need to get some weight on you!" That was a first!!!

Gender:  No one other than Brian thinks it's a boy. I have no reason to believe it's a girl, only a gut feeling. My 20 week visit falls on Thanksgiving Day; of course the doctor's office will be closed but I'm hoping they will schedule me for the day before and we can do the ultrasound then! I'm having a fit to know!!!

Maternity Clothes: I tried on some of the tops that my friend gave me and most of them are still pretty loose in the front so I've been making my stuff work. A few of my pants I've had to either put away of wear a rubberband with (mainly my skinny jeans).  I feel like I look out of shape instead of pregnant.  Brian and I were eating dinner at Olive Garden this week and he threw a wadded up straw paper at my chest and it went down my shirt! His response was hilarious, "it would have never gone in before you were pregnant!" I'm taking that as a compliment!

Movement:  None!

Sleep:  Still sleeping solid! I have to get up at least once to pee, but can fall right to sleep afterwards.  My bedtime is still around 8:00-8:30.  My favorite thing about sleeping is my body pillow! I bought one at Target at the beginning of my pregnancy when I was SO sick and it has been a GREAT investment!

Cravings:  Cool Ranch Doritos, Supreme Pizza from Pizza Hut, Rock Candy, Cherry Arctic Freeze from DQ, and Grapes.

Best Pregnancy Moment This Week:  Seeing the room we are going to use as the nursery in our new house! Sunday we went with the Butlers to look at our new house. Jon is super knowledgable about remodeling and he gave us some great ideas. I'm SO looking forward to moving in and decorating Baby A's room!

My Concerns or Questions:  I'm going to ask the doctor for something to help my acne issue.

Goals for the Week: I drank a ton more water this week, and it made me feel better. The exercise goal didn't happen; unless you count carrying boxes and walking up and down stairs! This next week I want to eat more veggies. Saturday we are moving in with my mom for a few weeks while we are waiting on our house to be finished; so I'm hoping I will be able to start exercising more since we won't be as busy! I would like to do cardio 3-4 times and do some weightlifiting.

Baby A's Week 13 Update

Baby Growth: This week Baby A is the size of a shrimp. She/he is almost an ounce, measures about 3 inches long, and now has fingerprints. I cannot believe how fast she/he is growing!

We haven't started taking belly pictures yet, but this is what Baby A looks similar to on the inside.

My Symptoms: I'm starting to feel pretty good during the day, but nighttime is brutal.  I have to eat dinner by 5:30 or it's not a good thing! I'm usually in the bed by 8:00-8:30pm.  Still dealing with acne ALL OVER my face.

Weight: Total weight gain is at 3.2 pounds from the day I found out.

Gender: Brian had a dream the other night that Baby A is a boy! I've had several people tell me they think it's a girl...even a random store clerk at the Mart! We don't care as long as it's healthy. I know that sounds cheesy but we really do not. Hopefully, we will find out the week of Thanksgiving!!!

Maternity Clothes: None yet. My pants and some shirts are starting to feel pretty snug, but are do-able. One of my good friends brought me a bag full of shirts that should get me through the fall...what a blessing!  I'm trying to hold out until Black Friday so I can hit up some sales!

Movement: None

Sleep: I'm sleeping great! I usually get around 10 or 11 hours every night. I think having to take Phenergan is helping me fall asleep.

Cravings: sweet tea, ravioli, ice, and cinnamon gum. This weekend was Clay's birthday and the ice cream cake was an amaze-fest!

Best Pregnancy Moment This Week: Finding out I could take two Flintstones vitamins instead of my pre-natals!

My Concerns or Questions: I ate a sandwich this week with cold turkey meat on it and put Sweet-n-Low in my water. I'm hoping that doesn't matter since it was only one time and I'll never do it again! Also concerned because I skipped my vitamins for several days due to my nauseous-ness. It's been rough trying to take all my vitamins, but I know they are important so I've resolved to not miss anymore.

Goals for Next Week: Walk at least three times. Drink more water. Start packing up our condo for our big move (more on that later)!

Our Baby Story

Welcome to our blog! I have been wanting to start a blog for a couple of years now, but didn't really think I had anything exciting to write about.  But now we have some BIG NEWS...

WE'RE HAVING A BABY!!!!

Brian and I are SO thankful and excited that God has chosen us to be parents to this precious baby! Since January we had been "trying" to get pregnant although neither one of us knew much about how to track it on a calendar or ovulation.  We just trusted that God would work it out in His time; one thing that I have learned in my spiritual journey is that God's timing is best and He will orchestrate every detail of our lives if we allow Him.

July was a very busy month for us, full of fun vacations! I worked the whole month of June at various camps and workshops for school, and Brian works 6 days a week so I figured we deserved it.

Our first vaca was to Destin, Florida with my mom and brother.  My sweet SIL Jennifer wasn't able to make the trip because she was dealing with some MAJOR morning sickness (which at the time I thought was a crazy reason to miss a beach trip...now I TOTALLY understand!)

We had such a great time just relaxing on the beach and eating some great seafood. I love love love the beach. It is truly my favorite place to be (other than home) and always enjoy having no agenda or set plans!

The next week I flew out to Texas to attend a training for our part-time business, Advocare. I had a great time with some very dear friends and really learned a lot. Although I really missed being away from Brian.

We were home for a week and then headed south, to Punta Cana with some of our best friends, the Butlers!

This was an AMAZING trip! We stayed at an all-inclusive resort for 7 nights and just soaked up the sun and enjoyed making some great memories!

While we were there I begin to notice some serious acne showing up on my forehead. I've never dealt with acne in my entire life, so this was very strange. I just ignored it and used some extra concealer for the week!

After we had been home for a few days, school started back and life got crazy again. I was looking at my calendar on my phone trying to figure out when my cycle would start and counted that I was 7 days LATE! This had been a regular thing for me so I didn't freak out just yet. I had been late every month all spring/summer and had taken at least one test each month only to be disappointed.  But something felt different this time.

I told Brian and we went to get a test on our way home from dinner. That night I "Googled" acne as a pregnancy symptom and saw that it was! Still not getting too excited; it's also a symptom of PMS.

August 15th, the day that changed our lives forever...

I woke up around 4AM for my nightly trip to the bathroom, and decided I would go ahead and take the test. I was trying to be really quiet so I wouldn't wake up Brian, but the plastic wrapping was not cooperating and he woke up! He couldn't believe I was taking the test at 4AM...whatevs I couldn't take it anymore and had to know right then! I did what I had to do and then waited.  I walked out of the bathroom and ran right back in 30 seconds later to find this...

I started laughing and couldn't believe what I was seeing! Brian thought I was joking but I showed it to him and he looked shocked.  I wish we would have taken pictures or done something cute, but at 4 o'clock in the morning we weren't thinking straight!

I went back to bed and tried to sleep, but my mind was going full blast. I got up and called my mom. She was beyond thrilled and we both started screaming!!! My brother and his wife are expecting a baby in February so she will be a double Nana and only 10 weeks apart! Brian wanted to wait until I went to the doctor before he told his parents.  I called my doctor right at 9:00, when they opened, to make an appointment. The lady was so excited for us and super sweet, she squeezed me in for that afternoon!

The test at the doctor's office confirmed it! They calculated (via a chart) that I was about 4-5 weeks along. I met with my favorite doctor, and he gave me some basic information; I made an appointment for 3 weeks later to hear the heartbeat and went home to share the good news with Brian!

I am feeling so blessed to be pregnant and am super excited to journal about our journey!
